Grand WaZoo was formed in June 1981 at St Kilda, Melbourne by Jazz Musician-Arranger (Trumpet & Piano), John Montesante, who still leads the band today .  John's mission was to create an exceptional Australian Soul outfit, which would authentically present the great songs, hits and dance repertoires of the outstanding Black Soul, Funk + RnB artists & bands of that golden era, along with band originals in that Big Soul style. After nearly three decades of ongoing performance, Grand WaZoo remains THE BAND OF CHOICE for all who require superb Music, unrivaled entertainment value & first-class professionalism.
For any 14+ piece Band to survive the roller-coaster of the Oz Music Industry, and continue to perform regularly for almost 29 years, it must offer a unique musical reward to its public and clients. Grand WaZoo does just that, providing musical excellence with a vibrant & enjoyable, authentic Soul Music experience. This wonderful Afro-American art-form originated with Ray Charles in the late 1950s and the birth of the Civil Rights movement, and provided most of the hit records of the 1960s and 1970s. Now, in the 21st century, Soul Music has enjoyed a resurgence, because its appeal is unmatched & timeless.
