Gifted and unassuming, Barney plays both upright and electric Bass. He graduated from Brisbane Conservatorium, becoming a versatile instrumentalist. Sought after for his excellent James Jamieson style of playing, Barney has performed with high profile jazz, funk and and swing bands and has toured the world, as part of cruise ships bands and orchestras. In 2004, Barney made Melbourne his home base, performing often as part of jazz-infected reggae band, Skankin and joining the Royal Australian Air Force Showband.

Barney was an occasional guest performer with Grand Wazoo - Kings of Soul over the years and was offered the Bass Chair, but his commitments made it impossible at that time. In 2008 he finally came aboard and we are thrilled to have him as an essential part of the WaZoo family. As well as Grand WaZoo, Barney occasionally performs with the bandleader's jazz outfit, John Montesante Quintet.
