Joys

COPYRIGHT GRAND WAZOO 2009-2010
Born in Kenya to a large missionary family, Joys migrated to Australia in 1987. With Gospel singing ingrained in her soul, she competed in national and continental recitals and choral singing, as well as poetry recitals, from a
young age.
Joys trained with Tina Koppa and at the Jaansz School of singing. She worked as a backing singer in a French Rap/African band, for two years, then she performed Neo Soul music and at Corporate functions. She is also a featured vocalist for YumYum (a soulful house events company) and in Jacket Off. She writes her own songs and poems and, being multilingual, performs in Swahili as well as English.
Joys appeared as a regular guest singer with Grand WaZoo - Kings of Soul in 2007 and subsequently joined the permanent line up, offering a voice that suggests an amalgam of Aretha, and her Gospel roots.
